Bob Krieger's interest in painting was interrupted by a full-time stint as editorial and sports cartoonist (1981-2012) for the Province newspaper.

He picked up the paintbrush again in 2007 at a workshop in Germany he first attended as an excuse to play guitar with a friend. Nine workshops and one pandemic later he completed a series of baseball card portraits of the first Black ballplayers to integrate each of the original 16 major league teams, with each player's position memorialized as "First." The source material of these paintings are baseball cards as they were originally created, including offensive cultural depictions. To omit the racist stereotypes would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed.

Krieger is under-retired as a cartoonist, working in both drawing and painting out of his Strathcona home.

The show was part of Culture Days BC and Heart of the City Festival.
